At the Donald E. Hamm Insurance Agency, our objective is to improve your overall understanding of insurance and the insurance process and to help you produce a plan of insurance coverage to protect your church's facilities and ministry.

The Donald E. Hamm Insurance Agency was specifically established for your church in 1987. At that time church insurance needs were being ignored by the major insurance companies. To obtain the type of insurance coverage a church truly needed agents, if they were even aware of what/where to purchase, had to do business with specialty insurance companies. Few did, however, because of the labor intensive effort required and the special licensing required.

Today with those license requirements curtailed and the advent of computerization, nearly every insurance company has commoditized its products and nearly all offer some type of attachable form to their standard base policy template that says "Church Endorsement" in the title and any licensed agent will offer to provide your church with its insurance, even if your church is the first they have ever sold to.

Our focus has always been to provide the church with the right type of specialized insurance coverage, unique to each church, and the service to go along with it. If we sell it, we are there in the office to answer your coverage questions and continue to revisit your church for insurance reviews again and again as board or committee membership changes.

And, of course, the real test of being your agent is being your church's advocate, helping to guide you through the claim process with the insurance company. This is something that the employee/salespersons of many insurance companies cannot do because of their status. And, the faceless voice at the other end of an "800" number is not concerned with your problems the way someone who deals with you face to face becomes involved.

Our Process

  • Determine Square Footage - We start by taking pictures and diagramming your church to determine square footage. This process is similarly repeated for church stained glass.

  • Determine Rebuilding Cost - We then input those figures into a computerized model to determine rebuilding (replacement cost) values.
  • Determine Value of Organ and Other Church Property - We speak with your organ tuner to determine the number of ranks/potential ranks of your organ box to determine its value. We also have specialized cost guides to value bells, carillons, spires, crosses, signage, exterior lighting and all manner of related church property.
  • Identify Liability Exposures and Financial Needs Coverage Requirements - We then go through a check list of questions we have developed over the years to identify church liability exposures and financial needs coverage requirements.

There is just no substitute for years of experience. And the cost -- well -- doing the job right should not increase insurance costs and many churches see insurance premium reductions because we take time to explain to the church the various choices they have in the coverage selection to protect their church. This agency is our ministry and our good reputation. It has always been and will remain focused on its mission long after all the others who seek a quick profit have moved on to lesser effort insurance sales.
